The primary colours
They are « pure » colours. With these three colours and white, it is possible to mix most other colours needed when painting a picture.
Primary colours are BLUE, YELLOW and RED   .

The secondary colours
They are created by mixing two primary colours.
Secondary colours are :
GREEN, mix of BLUE and YELLOW  +  = 
PURPLE, mix of RED and BLUE  +  = 
ORANGE, mix of RED and YELLOW  +  = 

Warm colours
They give a sensation of warmth, like YELLOW, ORANGE, RED, PINK...    

Cold colours
As opposed to warm colours, they give a sensation of freshness. GREEN and BLUE hues are cold colours :    

And purple ? Is it a warm or a cold colour ?
It is a cold colour when composed by more blue than red : ++
It is a warm colour when composed by more red than blue : ++

Complementary colours
- The complementary colour of RED is GREEN  
- The complementary colour of YELLOW is PURPLE  
- The complementary colour of BLUE is ORANGE  
By juxtaposing a primary colour and its complementary colour, the primary colour will look brighter than naturally.
