Exhibition "Brazilian Accents "
4th January – 1st May 2005
Within the framework of France’s annual cultural exchange, which this year is entitled “Brazil, Brazils”, our first temporary exhibition of 2005,”Brazilian Accents” features work by Brazilian artists.

Through its vast size, complex history and ethnic diversity, Brazil’s cultural influences are wide-ranging and varied. Naïve Art plays an important part in the expression of the country’s cultural identity.

For a large part therefore, Brazilian Naïve Art is inextricably linked to the cultural roots of the country. With surprising ease, local artists depict extremely diverse themes, mixing religious rituals, everyday life and extravagant festivals. Their work is characterized by masterful use of colour.

This exhibition of works by around fifty artists reveals the many and varied facets of Brazil, firstly through colourful landscapes, but also with the representation of human figures and religious and traditional festivals.
