Exhibition "At the heart of poetry"
6th September 2004 – 8th January 2005

Although poetry is not one of the six Arts (architecture, sculpture, painting, music, engraving and dance), it is closely connected to them nonetheless. This "art" of language maintains obvious links with the visual arts.

It is particularly pertinent to link the painter to the poet. Both recreate worlds which stand apart from our daiy routine and, with the help of words, rhythms and colours, express emotions and atmospheres which touch each and every one of us.

Excellent painter whose subtle paintbrush

Excellent painter whose subtle paintbrush
Can imitate, even surpass Nature,
Showing itself to be an inimitable tool,
While tracing a rare painting,

Tell me, do you want to paint a picture
Of joyful Springtime and its flowery face
Upon which the human eye endlessly gazes,
Delighted to see some beautiful landscape?

There is no need to paint extravagantly
The sky above a mountain,
Nor Phoebus who lights it
Nor some nymph or horned satyr,
Nor green fields nor river of clear water

 Virtual tour

In evoking feelings which are largely ignored in daily discourse, the poet sets out to move the reader. This same process is also used by naive painters who express numerous different emotions through their pictures, the most frequent of which being joy, serenity and nostalgia.

Although they go about it different ways, both the painter and the poet are storytellers who open doors onto new worlds. In unveiling a universe steeped in their own particular sensitivity, they invite us to share atmospheres whose colours and scents appeal more to the heart than the intellect.

This exhibition underlines the engaging relationship which exists between poetry and naive painting. The works presented half-open the doors into the imaginary world of naive art and reveal gentle, peaceful emotions. You are invited to wander the paths of poetry, leading to universes filled with fantastical worlds, nocturnal mysteries, tranquil landscapes and celestial cities...
